[Kundalini Yoga] Re: thyroid books

Satnam,
Check out the Metabolic Typing Diet, by William Wolcott and Trish Fahey.

In it they apply their research and knowledge and come up with something
very similar to Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM). In
Ayurveda there are the doshas, and in TCM you are always aiming for overall
balance of the patient's system, whether too yin or too yang (sorry it's all
my rudimentary understandings of it all).

In the metabolic typing diet they separate people depending on whether the
person is parasympathetic or sympathetic, autonomic system dominant. And
they also go another step further and determine your rate of cellular
oxidation, which will determine whether you are a high protein/low carb diet
type or the opposite.
This makes sense to me, as you see the difference in diet between an asian
body, used to generations of more carbs as in rice and noodles, and a
european who's system is more protein based.

The authors' saying ,"One man's food is another's poison" (they probably
didn't coin it but they sure do love using it) really hits the nail on the
head for me, as they dispel the myth of the one diet that will help
everyone. This rings true, as my ayurvedic doctor has told me to eat all my
vegetables cooked, that for now I'm not meant to have too many salads and
raw vegetable dishes, which will cool my already too cool system(body) more.
Understanding that even further, I'm Chinese, but am not meant to drink
Chinese tea because of it's cooling effects!

The most appealing thing for me regarding this system is how closely it is
moving towards the ayurvedic and TCM systems, where people are beginning to
be treated individually as unique systems, which we are.

Sorry this is really getting on. Let me just end by saying that I do
supplement, however badly I watch my diet (I am vegetarian at least!) with
ALOT of kundalini yoga, and that more than anything else I believe has been
the greatest catalyst to my good health. This more than anything: a healthy,
happy and holy mind and perspective on life, leads to a healthy body, and
healthy diet choices!

Love and light to the group
