Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Re: need purification methods

Blessings on your journey Tom. May your cooking be your meditation! Eating
fresh, local, seasonal (check your local farmer's markets) and whole foods/
grains is a great first step. Eating healthy is delicious and is a true
lifestyle, not a diet. Natural foods also provide energy and digest easily
which I find allow greater receptivity and inspiration for the teachings to
flow through as one deepens their yoga practice.

And if it hasn't already been mentioned, I would also highly recommend the
book "Foods for Health & Healing" (Remedies and Recipes, based on the
Teachings of Yogi Bhajan). The book is a fantastic resource and also
includes special sections on foods that are of particular benefit to men,
women and children.

Warmly,
Destin Joy

[Kundalini Yoga] Food support for pituitary gland?

Doing yoga focused on the pituitary gland (Sodarshan Chakra Kriya) makes me wonder if there are any special foods or herbs that will provide nutritional support to the breath and mantra work. I started eating some Goji berries (dried) but wonder if there is anything else for pituitary gland support that is yogi-tested.

Thanks for your insights,

Tom

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: need purification methods

RE:
Thanks you for your replies. I am looking for purification of body so that
it is suitable for KY practices and also to help me purify my mind.

----

Hi Dhanyavaad,

Congratulations on your commitment to purify!

The key thing is that the KY practice will purify the body, there is no pre-requirement to do yoga.

Here in Hawaii we have a saying "Can, can. No can no can." In other words, do the kriyas you are capable of, and if you can't do some, that is OK.

So please don't make the need for purification a limitation on starting your practice!

This group is more a discussion of yoga, and on that front you probably want to read the lessons at http://www.kundaliniyoga.org/
and look at the meditations at 3ho.org. Choose one you like and commit to 40 days. http://www.3ho.org/kundalini-yoga/kundalini-yoga-yb/kriyas-meditations/ If you can't decide, check out Sodarshan Chakra Kriya or Kirtan Kriya.

I assume you mean detox, getting rid of toxins in all parts of your body.

That being said, start with the obvious stuff you have no doubt heard many times:

Drink lots of clean water, especially right after practice. Most city water is not clean enough, so unless you have a pure spring I strongly suggest a water filter. I use reverse osmosis, but use whatever is appropriate for your area. Don't store water in plastic for long.

If you are over weight, loose weight. Your body stores toxins in fat.

I have not tried this, but a strong inexpensive detox is flushing niacin + a sauna. You can watch a video and learn more from Mercola at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qF_VeTERa1M

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Developing a consistent home practice-tips?

Namaste Laree,
I would suggest watching Swami Rama lectures on youtube.
He gives many hints on how to maintain/sustain/start your practice.
Personally I get very motivated after watching his videos, and while my
yoga I practice is different from what he teaches, I am definitely going to
implement the little tips he prescribes for sadhana.

Take care.

With Love,
Mike

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Developing a consistent home practice-tips?

Dear Laree,

As a home practitioner I find that having a wide variety of DVDs really
helps guide my husband and I to practice KY at home. We practice for an
hour almost every day. We just make the time and follow through and now
it's just become a part of our lifestyle routine.

When my husband is on the road for work he sometimes takes DVDs with him
and sometimes just does kriyas from his head. I find I prefer the
guidance that comes from the DVDs because they keep me more focused and
I don't unintentionally "cheat" by cutting a kriya off too quickly.

With a library of DVDs to choose from, you can pick what you want to
work on for the day: a particular chakra? Stress? More meditation or
less? If you make it more about choosing and less about deciding, I
think you will have a much more positive experience.

Subject: [Kundalini Yoga] Developing a consistent home practice-tips?

Dear KY community,

I live in a suburb of LA and there are very few KY classes offered close to me.
I have been developing a KY practice at home over the last few years. I started
to Ravi and Ana DVDs because that was all I knew of at first. I don't mind them
but after discovering other teachers and resources, I am drawn to a different
format. I was working with Shakta Kalsa's Kundalini Yoga book and really enjoy
it. I think I need to buy the companion CD to enhance my experience. I also have
Gurmukh's The 8 Human Talents and really love her writing style, as well as the
exercises. I practiced her Prenatal video religiously before I had my daughter
and it was so instrumental to my incredible birth experience.

I know part of this is my personality (I can be very indecisive) but am
wondering what KY home practitioners recommend that keep them disciplined and
focused. I love all the options in KY but it is almost too challenging for me to
commit to a particular action because I cannot decide between all the kriya
options. My main questions are as follows:

* Recommendations for KY practice for time intervals of 1 hour, 30 minutes, and
15 minutes.

* How can I effectively incorporate focused meditation into my daily practice?
* Music, books, DVDs recommendations helpful for a home practice

* How to be more connected to the KY community via the Internet?
Thanks in advance for any information and advice.

Sat Nam!

[Kundalini Yoga] Fasting

FASTING

There's hidden sweetness in the stomach's emptiness.

We are lutes, no more, no less. If the soundbox

Is stuffed full of anything, no music.

If the brain and the belly are burning clean

With fasting, every moment a new song comes out of the fire.

The fog clears, and new energy makes you

Run up the steps in front of you.

Be emptier and cry like reed instruments cry.

Emptier, write secrets with the reed pen.

When you're full of food and drink, Satan sits

Where your spirit should, an ugly metal statue

In place of the Kaaba. When you fast,

Good habits gather like friends who want to help.

Fasting is Solomon's ring. Don't give it

To some illusion and lose your power,

But even if you have, if you've lost all will and control,

They come back when you fast, like soldiers appearing

Out of the ground, pennants flying above them.

A table descends to your tents,

Jesus' table.

Expect to see it, when you fast, this table

Spread with other food, better than the broth of cabbages.

- - Jelaluddin Rumi

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Re: need purification methods

Sat Nam!

The most basic purification prerequisite is to change your diet to
eliminate toxic foods like processed sugars, wheat and dairy. The body
will detoxify itself on a good diet. Of course the other suggestions are
good too. Definitely do a liver cleanse. Candida Liver Care by Kroeger
Herb is good and a good price. See www.candidamd.com for candida
cleanse. I understand Dr. Humiston has his own herbs. He used to sell
Kroeger. Probably the same thing. Also celery juice with parsly, and
carrot and beet (not much) is good.

Blessings,

Guru Rattana :+)
