[Kundalini Yoga] White turban

I am curious how many of you wear a white turban when doing morning sadhna. Did it actually make a difference? Can you say how? I am also curious if any white head covering will do (I am thinking of a simple white cap).
I am approaching this yoga from more of a scientific perspective, and I have to say the white turban seems to my intellect like psychological window dressing. But I am willing to put aside my biases and try.

Happy 2012

[Kundalini Yoga] Teacher Training (maybe) Near you

Sat Nam,

There will be a level 1 teacher training session starting in September 2012
in NW Arkansas. Hopefully that will be more accessible to some of you.
I'll post the details when I have them.

Another thing you might do is approach your teacher (or contact a Kundalini
Yoga teacher nearby, which can be one days drive distance) and ask them if
you get together enough people they would be willing to teach a Level I
training class - or, if not that, offer weekend workshops.

When I started back to my Kundalini Yoga I was teaching Hatha and had a
number of regular students, so I thought I'd offer my first workshop. I
contacted YogaYoga in Austin, TX to see if one of their teachers would be
interested in coming here (6-8 hr drive one way) to teach a workshop. And
they offered the head teachers/owners Mehtab & Guru Karam. I was thrilled.
They even brought a gong with them. We had about 21 people (not huge, but
for NW AR it was!) and from that one workshop new teacher was "born" (one of
my students fell in love with KY and the gong that he went on to become a
Level I teacher, traveling to Austin every-other weekend to learn) and
others did Kundalini Yoga for the first time and still practice.

Often spaces are available for a low fee to use for workshops if you don't
have a big space. You can do it.

Sat Nam,

Arjinder

Hello,
I must say I agree with you that the classes are very expensive, too long,
and require travel.
OTOH, I would not want to be taught by someone who just hangs up a shingle
and says, "I am a yoga teacher." A person can be badly hurt by an inept yoga
teacher.

I wish there would be something like an apprenticeship. It seems to me that
some of the things that are taught in the certified training are not
necessary like all the anatomy and physiology. But that's just my opinion. I
have not taken the training. I did live in an ashram for a while and after a
couple of years of practicing yoga, I was invited to lead a class which I
did. Since then I often lead a class, but I am careful to say that I am NOT
a teacher, that I am a practitioner, who is merely doing yoga with other
people.

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Re: Teaching Kundalini Yoga

Sat Nam, I have to say that Anatomy and Physiology are two of the most intregal parts of any yoga teacher training. Not only do they benefit you the practicioner but they allow you to give verbal cues from deep within. Posture yoga is all about the daily practice and the deeping of the pose. By using your inner eye you watch as each muscle tendon and ligament softens, melts and moves breath by breath into the deepest state of the posture and meditation of the asanas. Without knowing the anatomy one can not relate to their body or the physical bodies of others. If you can not give verbal cues from what you are feeling and know what muscles are involved then you can not truely teach a class. Sat Nam Raj Kirin Kaur

[Kundalini Yoga] So Purkh

Sat Nam,

Kat's letter and boyfriend's comment reminds me of the meditation given
by Yogi Bhajan for women 'to do for their men.' It basically changes
the energy is many interesting ways. There are many stories about the
effects.

The meditation consists of repeating 11 times the stanza in Rehras
(evening prayer) So Purkh. Takes about 31 minutes.

If anyone is doing this meditation and wants to share the results,
please do so.

Also I am putting out a request for someone who knows how to pronounce
this mantra to make a recording repeating the 'words' slowly so that
those who wish to learn it can do so. I would suggest (1) a very slow
version, which takes 31 minutes about and (2) a second version which
would be faster and include 11 times in the approximately 31 minutes.
Anyone interested?

I know there are some versions available but they are too fast for
beginners. If you have a link for any version that works for you, please
send it.

Blessings for the new year!

Guru Rattana :+)

no offense, but I don't think that is the reason. I think the reason people charge the prices they charge, is because they can.

Like The Solstice -every year it goes up, it was about $500. for the 6 days, now I have no idea, perhaps it is $1000. True there are a few scholarships, but not everyone gets one, and working in the kitchen for a reduced fee, but not everyone can do that.

I always got that stuff about "the universe will provide". Well Actually the universe doesn't always provide. That is why we have billions of poor people in this world.

I am not able to do the expensive events, so I just accept it.

That is just how it is.

I don't resent it, it is my life, and if I had made different choices when I was younger, I would have more oppoortunities now.

But I disagree with the idea that if your heart is pure, and your intention is clear, the money will come.

bosh. :)

Hello,

Wishing you luck indeed.
It's funny how if it seems funny it must be religion!
Some people when I tell them it improved my health say things like 'Yes faith can be an amazing thing'.

Anyway the more 'faith' I do the better I feel.

I wonder if there there is  another faith where I can get the benefits without all the hard work?

Keep it up..

I just took a look at this class below - some are free, and I am going to try it before signing up.

very weird that on the website she has headline of David Ickes, who is - a real nut. He is one of those who believe that 13 genetically-related families rule the world, and that there are half-human, half-reptile beings live under the Denver International Airport waiting to take over the world.
whew! :)

You can look at his website and see that I am correct.
Don't know if I want to take yoga with someone who believes this!
Maybe I'll pass.

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Decreased interest in sex after sodharshan

This is interesting.

I had always been told, if this movement or set makes you angry, then you need it, so I would keep doing it.

But I can see your point, that not all sets are for every human being.
Important to say I think.
