[Kundalini Yoga] Re: Disbalanced hormones ,high LDL,Back pain

 


Dear Tosani,
Your TSH is very high, no wonder you have problems! Mine was a little over 4 when I finally dragged myself in to see a more sympathetic endocrinologist after years of stonewalling by g.p.s and internists. By the way, the new TSH guidelines for normal are .5 to 3.0, but many Drs. are still going by the old numbers.

Still, you need to be an educated patient to have an idea about what to ask for. You need to know thoroughly the symptoms of thyroid insufficiency so you know what to complain about! For instance, my leading indicator is my eyebrows, which wax and wane depending on how good the hormonal profile is. After that, if I'm more out of whack, is the incredible soreness with any exercise and aching even if I'm not exercising. In other words, probably your back will feel a lot better once you get closer to an appropriate amount of thyroid into your system! LDL- complicated, but the liver gets dragged into the works as well.

It is not unusual for patients with Hypothyroidism to have a weight problem which is hard to deal with without treating the Hypo. One thing with Hypo is that your energy go down real fast as well, since your adrenals is exhausted. To beat that (which is the most important thing to do), you need to reduce the stressors in your life.

When you see your doctor, make sure s/he takes a good look at your adrenals.

Relax when it comes to your weight problem, since it can be a side effect of Hypo. Once Hypo is treated, this problem will be much easier to solve.

When it comes to kriyas, I shouldn't put any strain on my body at this point - not even kriyas - as they may function as a stressor on your body. IF you have Hypo or adrenal fatigue, your body needs to rest. Slow and short walks along with meditations that focuses on the Thyroid. An alternative to actually do the kriyas - which I don't recommend - is that you set aside an amount of time in which you imagine you do the kriya.

My suggestion is that you do Kriya for Metabolism and relaxation (http://www.shaktakaur.com/kriyas/for_metabolism_and_relaxation.htm) MENTALLY until you are well enough, along with Yoga Nidra, which will give you a very good relaxation. The Stress set for adrenals and kidneys (http://www.shaktakaur.com/kriyas/stress_set_for_adrenals_and_kidneys.htm) should also be working well for you.

When it comes to meditations I think - at this point - you should concentrate on healing your glandular system. Here is what I recommend:

I am sorry if you don't get an answer to your initial question, about a kriya for your weight, put at this point I think you should consider letting that issue go, at least until you have your glandular system under control.

Have you talked w your doctor about your pain in the chest area and your concerns, due to how you lost your father? If not, then do so. I also suggest you seek out a homeopath in Hong Kong, I know (since I googled it..) there are several of them there. If you can't afford it, I will call my homeopath for advice that I can pass on to you. Until you know more about your condition from your doctor, I strongly recommend that you rest as much as possible. I understand that to be difficult w two small children and a demanding job, I am in that situation myself, but try to find the time where your mind and most important, your body, can relax.

My mind told me this yoga could not possibly work. I could not see how it could possibly work.
But as I did the yoga I started to see that my 'mind' gives me a picture of the world and myself and that picture is just plain wrong in some important ways. The main thing for me is learning that my 'mind' needs my 'body' to exist and some problems in the mind start improving if you do yoga every day. Which problems? Well you find out by doing yoga every day! One day when science has caught up it will tell us but that's not yet!

It was 18 months after my first Kundalini yoga class that I did a full kriya for 40 days.

Then I looked back and though 'Why didnt someone tell me to do this sooner'.

Of course they had told me many times but I didn't believe them.

PS - I didn't have full OCD but was becoming ever more stressed and as I did so was succumbing to more compulsive behaviours, bad habits and paranoid thoughts. As yoga de-stressed me these things just starting going away by themselves. Some of our actions are what we consciously want - others come from deeper where we can't control.
Yoga leads to a fundamental weakening of powerful processes in our system - reactions that give rise to unwanted habitual behaviours.

[Kundalini Yoga] Disbalanced hormones ,high LDL,Back pain

 

Dear Group,
Recently got blood test done,Found that TSH is 5.44 which is high (0.55-4.78),LDL is 3.5(<3.4) should be less than the range.Severe back pain, cant walk, pin point pain in the foot while walking, Im vegetarian by diet, still my weight increased. Any suggestions ? Pls advice !

What makes you think that "modern medical science" is worthwhile (at least in this instance)? The sacred cows of science have been proven wrong many, many times over the centuries.

Mending a broken limb is something medical science is very good at; working with the body to help it heal itself in subtle ways is not generally something they care about (here in the States anyway).

For many people SSRI use has been proven to be less effective than a placebo, although there are those for whom it works quite well. I personally fall into the category of those who become suicidal when taking SSRIs, and "modern" medical practitioners keep wanting me to take *different* SSRI drugs. Apparently these doctors don't understand what it means to react to a class of drugs or that repeated drug-induced suicidal states inevitably become a death sentence. They certainly don't seem to care about how much agony I've been through.

Needless to say I've been exploring alternatives for a long time now.

So. Your mind (small) is choosing a specious (false) argument to fool you into inaction.

Proper diet, exercise, and nutritional supplementation are powerful anodynes to OCD - as is returning the body's energy system to a healthier state.

I'm not familiar with David Shannahoff, so perhaps the Universe has given me a nudge. (Preliminary research looks interesting.)

At any given moment no matter how bad I'm feeling I can effect at least some improvement by doing nothing more than Yoga breathing for two minutes. If I can make a change in 120 seconds then what can I do in 20 minutes?

Doing Hatha Yoga for 10-20 minutes pretty much forces my mind to change its focus at least for that time period, and there are always lasting benefits - even if I don't recognize them at the time.

One important principle for me to remember is that *I* am not my mind, and when I observe my mind it becomes clear this is true.

My first step in dealing with out-of-control THINKING is to notice. My second step is to become the observer and watch without judgement the THINKING take place. Often this observation leads to a cessation of the THINKING, but at the very least it *always* leads to a reduction in the THINKING.

From there I turn to other techniques when necessary.

There is HOPE.

Perhaps the most difficult thing is overcoming the inertia of inaction, and it is frequently surprising how little effort is necessary to start the ball rolling.

When I am open to my TRUE needs for healing I tend to make progress, and I continually work to let go of the things that limit me.

I strongly recommend you hire a coach who will work with you 1-1 on the kriyas, preferably daily. if that isn't affordable, perhaps a coach who will check in with you daily and work with you 1-1 once a week, or something like that. OCD is preventable -- I am so much healthier since I started doing a daily sadhana! make a commitment, like you did when you sent in this post!

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: OCD

 

Hello,
What works for me when I am in the position of "nothing will work, so why try anyting?"-
is - I consider it an experiment.
So I tell myself, OK, doing xxx won't do any good, BUT I'm just going to do it to see how I feel.
Sometimes, if I can just do it once, then I am unstuck.
So - you could tell your mind,I'll do xxx minutes of the protocol,just to see how I will feel. In other words, don't attach too much importance to doing it.

Also, psychiatrists may tell you that there is no cure for OCD, but Jeffrey Schwartz in a book I read, has lots of people being cured of it.
The book is "The Mind and the Brain: Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force", and I found it fascinating.

thirdly, altho I haven't read David Shannahoff's book,he is highly regarded, and you should tell yr mind, go take a walk, while I just give this a try. Sometimes we gotta overcome our minds.
