Re: [Kundalini Yoga] severe back pain

Sat Nam!

First of all, you have seek medical advice: just then you can se if you are
in the position to do some practice. Till now I wouldn't work physically but
I'd search for simple pranayam exercises or mantra meditations.

I suggest you to read "Heal Your Back Now!" by Nirvair Singh, now free to
download:

Dear fellow yogis,

could someone advise me on what to do after i severely strained my back. I
can barely walk since the incident (2 days ago), and am having a tough time
on my sadhana. I had to drop the sun salutations and wake up series. is
there an easy way to tell if i ruptured a disk or something like that? the
back feels normal to the touch, but I can't tolerate sitting and it stiffens
up, making movement a real adventure....

RE: [Kundalini Yoga] new practitioner with anxiety and depression

Hello R - 'new practioner with anxiety and depression'

There are 2 wonderful Kriya's I know about that could really assist you.

One is 'Pituitary Gland Series' in the 'KRI INTERNATIONAL TEACHER TRAINING
MANUAL LEVEL 1,' by Yogi Bhajan. Working on the Pituitary Gland which
releases serotonin - the neurotransmitter most responsible for our mood and
people with depression tend to have low serotonin levels.

The other is the 'Stress Set for Adrenals & Kidneys' - same manual. This
strengthens our adrenals & kidneys which are directly responsible for our
stress levels in our body. Our adrenals are constantly creating adrenalin
which we use too much of in our modern day living and then our adrenals
become weaker and we get angry, snappy and tired and we can't function well.

Work on these 2 kriya's and let me know if it helps!

I'm fairly new to kundalini yoga. I realize this may be an unreasonable
request, but is there a kriya that might offer immediate "first aid" for
anxiety and depression? I realize that I will need to learn long term
skills over a period of practice, but is there something that can give me
some first aid in the meantime - start to calm me down, clear my thinking,
and get me back going again again?

Many thanks for considering this request -

Blessings,

RE: [Kundalini Yoga] severe back pain

Sat Nam, Michael, I am not a doctor, I can only tell you what happened to me. I strained my lower back seriously on the job, lifting heavy banker boxes from overhead ... I ended up not being able to sit, stand or walk because I could not bare the pressure of the upper torso on the lower, I also had a bulging disk hitting two nerves -- I believe it was the L3 disk (an MRI showed this). I went to therapy, I tried to take the drugs/pain killers, muscle relaxers (which I don't do well). It was not until I stayed at the ashram for a week and literally dragged myself into sadhana and layed there (for the most part) did I improve. Before doing 3 days of sadhana, my body had stiffened up big time, from not doing any yoga because of the pain, which caused more pain. If you stay away from the serious leg lifts, i.e., Nabhi Kriya, and just stretch as much as you can and do breath of fire, I believe it would help ....

I wish you the best of health!

Padmani

Sat Nam Chris:

A most powerful Kriya: keep it for at least 40 days.

If you can sustain 15 mins of Breath of Fire, then elevate yourself by the chanting (I Am Thine In Mine Myself Wahe Guru, Humee Hum Toomee Toom, Wahe Guru), the movement, the claping and even the final relaxation while you listen and let the Mantra work through you, you will be walking through the Serenity Prayer, walking through a hurricane and not have a hair on your head move. That is what Yogi Bhajan meant by the eagerness of coping with a conditon infinitely beyond our control.

Blessings!

Sat Nam

Amazing things to report. First, thank you Adi Singh for the Kriya recommendations. I did the first and slept like a baby. This morning I did "Developing the Power to Win" (April 2, 1986) to get ready for my meeting with the dealership. I was so well prepared it felt like I was riding a wave. My energy was like an arrow. I was able to have all the sleazy add-ons removed from my contract -- and then thank them for doing the right thing. They almost seemed embarrassed. I feel grateful and humbled by the outcome.

The phrase "feel like a fool" or "have been played" sums up the emotional charge. I've been doing some kriyas for negative mind, which have helped some. They have been releasing much sadness, and I feel that this incident is tapping something much deeper in me beyond the circumstances. I will roll over into deep grief at moments.

RE: [Kundalini Yoga] Sstarting a small group - is this OK?

I 've been told by qualified teachers (actually, they teach/certified
Kundalini Yoga teachers) that if you teach using the Kriyas as created by
Yogi Bhajan, you'll be OK. There are any number of books (Relax and Renew;
Transition to a Heart Centered World, etc.) which have wonderful Kriyas and
other info.

I was told I SHOULD teach (I've been practicing K-Yoga and other styles for
over 15 years) -- and will be getting my "certification" -- but I do
currently teach.

Arjinder

Sat Nam,

I live in a small isolated community of around 40 people and there are 5 or
6 of us who want to practice Kundalini. As I have the most experience I have
offered to lead the group as best as I can but I have been told by a
Qualified Kundalini Yoga teacher that it is dangerous for me to do this and
there is no way they could support or help me in any way as it would be
unethical for them to do so.

I am not a qualified teacher, but I do have over 15 years experience of
practicing various kinds of yoga and about 4 months experience of daily
Kundalini practice.

From what I have read it seems more important to continue practice than to
not do anything at all and that meeting like minded people once a week to go
through a class together would be really good and should be perfectly OK...
I also believe that the mantra ONG NA MO GURU DEV NA MO is specifically for
tuning into the masters of Kundalini so we can be guided by them.

I need a second opinion - is what I am doing wrong?

Blessings of love and light
Jap Dharam Xx
