You are doing what Yogi Bhajan called Gatka Meditation ... a thought comes and you immediately strike it with equal force and quality with a line that projects your mind.  "I am the grace of God, radiant and complete!" is one example he gave.  The thought redirects the hidden agenda and brings you back to that point of stillness and reality within your self, where your primary relationship is with your soul, self and God.
 
For every thought that is a small, negative scenario, self-defeating and limiting, there is an equivalent thought that is a vast, positive scenario, self-expanding and liberating.  This redirecting of the mind neutralizes the polarity of the negative impulse that is not from our identity.  If we practise this and use the neutral zone of the mind in meditation, we can root out the hidden agenda and reclaim the full territory of the mind for our supreme consciousness and self. 

The most effective gatkas are mantra and the naad-based words of the Guru.  They carry us through three stages of meditation.  The first is a self-hypnosis where we redirect and involve the mind in the thought, sensation and feelings of the mantra or shabd. We leave behind other focuses.  We pick up on the frequency of the repeated thought as we do japa.  The second stage is extensive.  We open our sensitivity and expand our field of awareness.  We sense every cell of the body and every fiber of the aura.  We expand that aura to connect with the greater magnetic field of the universe. We feel in our cells and in our radiance the imprint and play of everything in the universe. Anything that happens in the universe creates the polarity imprint in this sensitive body.  It is the microcosm of our own field of energy correlating with the macrocosm field of the universe.  Yes, we are that connected, subtle and sensitive!  As we enter into this stage we let our extension be unlimited. 

This third stage of mediation is the qualified, stabilized neutral zone.  We are still.  We are in shuniya.  All reaction and motion stops.  We can hold any impression we want here.  Our intention directs our perception and invokes seamlessly the action of the Supreme Consciousness. 

At this point we have a choice to project into the subconscious, the unconscious or the supreme consciousness through merger in the turiya state of the mind.  This is called divine merger or the sacred space of the Infinite.  In that place all polarities are resolved with our unlimited being and consciousness.
