Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Breath of fire and Kalapati

Sat Nam:

Absolutely! But the similarities in techniques may, and usually does, confuse the student. That is why it is important to follow the teachings in our Kundalini Yoga Kriyas, meditations and Pranayam exercises.  For the new student, and even for the seasoned practitioner, trying to incorporate technologies from other systems may cause not only confusion but loss of focus. It is good we have a community (electronically at least) like this one where we can share and learn from each others.

But to round up this message, Kapalbhati is a purification exercise, specially for the upper compartments of the body, lungs and skull. Some may not even consider it a pranayam technique per se. It uses the exhalation more like a pump, as I mentioned in an earlier message, while Breath of Fire uses the subtle but effective movement of the Navel Center to activate Manipura. Kapalbhati is a purification exercise, Breath of Fire is an activation of a whole system, the lower Triangle.

Blessings:
Adi Singh

Sat Nam!

These 2 breaths are very different. Both focus on the exhale. But in BF, the inhale is the same length or importance as the exhale. In Kalapati the exhale is forced out, so there is more cleansing activity and elimination. BF is energizing.

Sat Nam,

Guru Rattana :+)
