[Kundalini Yoga] Re: getting out of bed early

 

Erin -

I totally understand. Have compassion and give yourself credit for even WANTING to get up to work on yourself. Let this be a process over time and be patient with yourself. If you use too much force, you will break yourself. Then what's the point?

Why not start by setting your alarm 5-10 minutes earlier than you would normally want to get up. Instead of making yourself get out of bed right away, just lie in bed for those 5-10 minutes and chant mantra. No big deal. Perfection is a myth. The whole point of the practice is to start using the tools in a way that enhance your life. Relax and enjoy your snooze time but add a mantra to it. That could be a POWERFUL practice in and of itself and you may find it will transform your day. . . then little by little you will crave more practice in the morning, and it will be a joyful process. Let your HUNGER for the practice grow. There are no rules, ok?

if you're especially tired, hit snooze and put on a mantra cd. . . how about snatam kaur's ra ma da sa sa say so hung track. . . and lie in bed and put your hands on your navel and heart chakras and go back to sleep. Be creative and don't create a box for yourself of what your practice should look like. Remember, it's YOURS, it's FOR you, it's not against you.

You could even set your alarm for an hour early and put on a morning sadhana cd, then completely go back to sleep as you listen to the music, and wake up again to the final guru ram das chant. . . isn't that something you could look forward to every night?

On a more practical note - be mindful what you eat at night. . . eating heavy foods late at night can make it difficult to wake up, as the liver is overburdened. . .
