RE: [Kundalini Yoga] Question for Kundalini yogis who do Structural Integration or Heller work

 

Hi, I'm not Structural Integration practitioner but from a physiotherapist point of view, "shortening" of the flexor group through repetitive flexor dominant exercises is possible but unlikely unless these were the only type of exercises done with no regard to extension or rotation. If anything in treating people with shortened hip flexors, the likely cause has been those having a job that involves predominantly sitting, or pts with weakness and debility who are in prolonged sitting as unable to stand, or athletes esp. sprinters who have hip flexor tightness d/t heavy loads lifted in training and nature of their sport that requires to produce huge explosive power in their flexors, of course there is always those that have a natural postural bias to flexor tightness. Just my input and not complete, but my advice would be start your kriya. It really is about balance in all planes of movement. James

I recently had a series of structural integration done. My practitioner advised me that doing lots of exercises like leg lifts is not good for the body structure, because it shortens the muscles in the abdomen/upper thigh (psoas for sure, and others too). I was wondering if there is anyone trained in structural integration, heller work, or a similar deep body work that works on the connective tissue, who also does kundalini yoga and could comment from personal experience - I would like to start nabhi kriya again, but now I am wondering if it would counteract the work I had done. Thank you.
