The easiest and most effective way to strengthen the area is to excersise the hands.  If you hold your arms in front of you palms facing up and arms straight.  Clasp the hands into a fist and then release.  Do this rapidly as fast as you can and for as long as you can.  It is almost like clapping without the hands touching each other.  Do everyday and keep a diary of results.
