Sat Nam, Michael, I am not a doctor, I can only tell you what happened to me. I strained my lower back seriously on the job, lifting heavy banker boxes from overhead ... I ended up not being able to sit, stand or walk because I could not bare the pressure of the upper torso on the lower, I also had a bulging disk hitting two nerves -- I believe it was the L3 disk (an MRI showed this). I went to therapy, I tried to take the drugs/pain killers, muscle relaxers (which I don't do well). It was not until I stayed at the ashram for a week and literally dragged myself into sadhana and layed there (for the most part) did I improve. Before doing 3 days of sadhana, my body had stiffened up big time, from not doing any yoga because of the pain, which caused more pain. If you stay away from the serious leg lifts, i.e., Nabhi Kriya, and just stretch as much as you can and do breath of fire, I believe it would help ....
I wish you the best of health!
Padmani

Subject: [Kundalini Yoga] severe back pain
Dear fellow yogis,
could someone advise me on what to do after i severely strained my back. I can barely walk since the incident (2 days ago), and am having a tough time on my sadhana. I had to drop the sun salutations and wake up series. is there an easy way to tell if i ruptured a disk or something like that? the back feels normal to the touch, but I can't tolerate sitting and it stiffens up, making movement a real adventure....
Sat Nam
Michael
