Kirsty!
Are you nuts??
You may have the most coveted degrees in medicine but to me, you sound like you're paranoid about chid sexual abuse.
As long as a mother is not nursing the kid for her own pleasure its not sexual abuse. common sense... OK??
I started weaning my son when he was 10 months old. and I have to agree that it more so because of the social pressure of following the norm and also the physical demands of motherhood.
So shove your medical degrees up your a** & let mothers decide what's best for their baby!!!

Her hisband is an attorney, and is, in fact, one of the most powerful attorneys in this country. I'm not writing about this to serve my view. I simply will ferret out any and all child abuse I possibly can. Not one person here can go into a court of law and defend having her nipples sucked by a child who is 2 -10.

I don't really want to get into a debate about it, but I will tell you that current World Health Organization, Health Canada, and Toronto Public Health (where I live) guidelines are to nurse children to "2 years and beyond". Here are a couple quick google results that give some of my reasons.

Do you have a plan in mind to wean your child?

I just have a question about whether regular practice literally causes release of toxins stored in the body. I am still breastfeeding my 17 month old and am just a little nervous about whether toxins are being released and then excreted into the milk. If anyone has any thoughts or information about this please let me know.
