Hello all,
--- In Kundaliniyoga@
I am not a master of chanting by any means....
I tell people if you want you can use them as devotional yoga but if you are secular like me ignore that part and use chanting for:-
1 - My yoga manual says Yogi Bhajan also said the chants have an effect from tapping of mouth parts sending messages into the nervous system. This is similar to tapping finger mudras.
2 - Also I think the vibrations of the voice through the body have an effect on awareness of the body.
3 - Also I think they help my brain to see I can use my voice neutrally - I don't have to be constantly seeking validation (ie. annoying people) with it. This was a big thing for me!
4 - It helps you to sing better which is great for self confidence and for the people who have to hear you in the shower! Another big thing for me!
Keith.
PS Yogi Bhajan said the mantras we have work so why not use them - it's hard to create new ones. English is not such a tapping language so mantras in English are not so efective.
PPS - There are also often great philosophical ideas in the mantras/texts so you can learn something from their translations.
