Sat Nam, Bryan,
One of the places I teach is at an Adult Wellness Ctr (50 and over only)
with some people in my classes in their 80s. When hips are tight and/or
painful knees, if you can sit on a bolster, or two folded blankets (fold in
1/2, then again, then in 1/2 the other way, then another fold to make it
higher, then stack one on top of the other -- slightly less high than a Yoga
bolster (you can see bolster at any Yoga supply place -- Spirit Voyage,
Giaim, hugger mugger, etc). You can also probably see how to fold the Yoga
blanket (which is not a soft fluffy blanket ;}) on You tube, I'll bet.
This will make sitting cross-legged much more comfortable -- even an extra
support under the other thigh of the knee the hurts if sitting on
blankets/bolster don't do enough.
If you are sitting and in pain you are going to be holding muscles tight and
not get the full benefit of the Kriya. There is much you can do sitting in
a chair, also.
I hope this helps with your challenged knees (not "bad" knees, just painful
at the moment) ;}
Sat Nam,
Arjinder

Subject: [Kundalini Yoga] New to kundilini yoga
Hello,
My name is Bryan and I am new to doing yoga. I am 50 years old and have bad
knees. The sitting and crossing my legs is hard to do. I have the beginners
kundalini yoga program from Nirvair Singh Khalsa. My question is how long
should you work with one volume before moving on to the next. I so much want
to learn to do it properly.
Thank You
Bryan
