Hi there, here are some reasons I know of:
Your skin is the biggest organ and needs to breathe freely.
Prana is taken in via the soles of your feet
There are lots of nerve endings that correspond to the different organs/parts of your body and are stimulated more effectively when barefoot
The body also detoxes via the feet
Barefoot you're less likely to slip whilst performing asanas on your feet
I am sure there are a lot more reasons for this - anyone?
