"Push-up" throws people off. With a regular push-up, the arms movement is in front of your chest while you're in a plank position. In what we refer to as a yoga push-up, you are in a KY triangle pose (down dog in hatha) and it's helpful to think of the elbows bending over the head so you keep that diagonal line of the triangle. With practice, you can bend your elbows more deeply and get your head closer to the floor. It helps a lot to play some very rhythmic KY music once you get the idea.
When I first tried this, I could hardly bend my elbows at all, and I'd been doing down dog in sun salutations for years. So don't feel like there's something wrong with you if it takes some building up!
The reason I persisted was a yoga friend of mine, who had started KY a little before me. I asked her if she had done a 40 day practice yet. She said she had only done one, at that time, the aura building set, and people started coming up to her saying, "What have you done? You look terrific!" It's definitely a brightener, so hang in there!
