I put my hand down on my knee because as you say it gets heavy up in the air. This helps me be more focused on the pumping and breath retention. For me cultivating inner awareness is an essential part of the practice of KY. Hand on the knee gives me a chance to focus on what is happening inside and to fully activate by doing the pumping in a rhythmic and stimulating way.
