[Kundalini Yoga] Re: 1st Class

Sat Nam Chris and welcome to Kundalini Yoga.

Be grateful, the energy is moving and your centers are flowing.
Embrace your experiences and you will learn how your own self work the energy during and after Kriyas. Some nights you will sleep with angels, others you will tumble with rocks. It is all part of the experience. Just live it!

Blessings
Adi Singh

[Kundalini Yoga] Supportive Activities

I'd like to hear what else people on this group like to do, especially things that enhance or are enhanced by KY.

I'll start - I've been doing Zumba classes at 24 hour fitness once or twice a week. What does dancing have to do with yoga? plenty it turns out. I first took Zumba because my former hatha yoga teacher was leading.

Zumba is basically dance to latin and world music. Their tag line is "ditch the workout , join the party" It really challenges all that work we do on the lower triangle by moving hips every which way, works flexibility in the spine and is a great aerobic work out as well. Don't think it is just for 20 something women - I'm a 53 year old guy and love it (but find it challenging!)

Also I like stand up paddling - Which is sort of a combo of surfing and canoeing. It is a major core builder and since you are standing it really challenges balance.

Be well,

Tom

Hi there, it happened to me also.

For me this works: Turn of the lights, look to a candle concentrating on your posture and your breathing.
Close your eyes when you are tired.

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Anorexia

Sat Nam!
When ever I hear the words Anorexia or Bulimia I just have to step in and share. I was bulimic for 14 years and never thought I would be able to stop the behavior. After many sessions with Guru Singh, he helped me to see what was really going on, and what image of myself I was holding onto.

I have put together a blog about two years ago, this blog is filled with lessons that helped me over come Bulimia once and for all. If you like pass on the link, read it yourself, share it with her if you like. My mission is to serve and help others that are going through this.

RE: [Kundalini Yoga] 1st Class

Hi Chris - yep kundalini yoga at night, depending on the kriya can really
raise your energy and make you feel alive and vital! Good idea is to do some
forward bends, relaxing over the legs sitting down with legs straight out in
front and breathing slowly and relaxing, maybe read a book for a while in
this position. Also breathing through the left nostril can help.

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] 1st Class

Did you ground well afterwards? Sit back on heels and bend forehead to the mat
until grounded or put thumbs on either side of third eye.

I've been doing kundalini yoga weekly for some time (and also did a 40 day
sadhana at 4:15 am) and do not feel it changed my sleep patterns. If anything,
it makes me more relaxed.

RE: [Kundalini Yoga] Hello Arjinder [was Re-Intro] & Suggestions for First Kriya

Sat Nam, Mish. Basic Spinal Energy set is a great Kriya to practice for
awhile. It is a good warm-up in and of itself. Sat Kriya (starting with
just 3 minutes) is another great starter, but can be challenging for
arms/shoulder, so the Kirtan Kriya (sa ta na ma) is another option, and
perfect if you are just starting out.

Kundalini Yoga can change your life ... for the better, of course. (I'm also
a level III Reiki healer ... remember, you can also heal yourself)

Arjinder, You and your husband give me inspiration that at age 56 and

a peaceful mind. Starting on my first kriya today and will also be
joining Kartar for 40-day daily commitment. Any suggestions for my first
kriya? I hope I'm using that term correctly. I am also following Guru
Rattana's lessons on the website. As a side-note and slightly OT, I also
am a Reiki practitioner, returning to Reiki after an absence of two
years because of a serious personal crisis I was undergoing. I'm getting
back on track now and I find these two disciplines, Reiki & Kundalini
Yoga, very complementary. If anyone has any thoughts on that, I'd love

[Kundalini Yoga] New Member Intro

Hello and thank you all for accepting me into this group. My name is
Mish, age 56, grandmother, aspiring artist and dollmaker, Reiki
practitioner returning to Reiki after an absence of about two years. I'm
getting myself back on track now after a personal crisis that began in
late 2009. I am in the process of moving to another state to care for my
aging father in a few months, which I am very happy about. The climate
where I'm moving will be much better for my health and the area much
better for my artistic endeavors, but I have mixed feelings because I
will be leaving my grandchildren behind. I was a member of this list
several years ago, but didn't follow through with learning KY. So I'm
here again, 30 pounds heavier and very out-of-shape. By learning and
practicing Kundalini Yoga, I am hoping to reduce my weight to normal
levels, become more fit, develop a peaceful mind that will complement my
Reiki and artistic endeavors and deal better emotionally with the
changes I'm undergoing at this stage in my life. I'm also following the
lessons on Guru Rattana's website. I'm very thankful to be able to do
this online right now. Namaste, Mish

wonderful that so many people will be doing this!
The question re how long - Yogi Bhajan says it takes 40 days to change a
habit, so we aim to do the set for 40 days and not miss a day.
However, if you do miss, do not get discouraged and quit, just start again.
The question re describe the set-
It is called "Spinal Energy set" and I have a hard copy from 1999! I don't
know how to use my scanner.

But if you go to Guru Rattana's site -
http://www.kundaliniyoga.org/spinal.html
The spinal energy set here is very similar.

I don't know if everyone knows that Guru Rattana is one of the founders and
sponsors of this list, and a great yogi.

She offers a whole course in Kundalini Yoga at this web site:
http://www.yogatech.com/go/htmlos.cgi/grol/grol_play.html#flash_anchor

I am going to start with my tried and true and familiar set. And then I will
try some of her classes.

I start with 2 minutes each, and then increase gradually to 3.

Welcome everybody to class. :)
I am so inspired.
Kundalini Yoga is the best thing in the world for me. Last year I finally
got in the habit of doing it every morning at 4 am, and I felt great.
--then...I had blood sugar issues, or adrenal issues, not sure which, but I
could no longer do it on an empty stomach, and I stopped. As I said July 1
is my first day of no work, so I will rise, eat, wait one hour, and do yoga.

If you are able to and wish to, Yogi Bhajan says, and my experience confirms
this, it is very special to do the set before the dawn, or as early as
possible.

Remember to tune in.
Be sure to rest between kriyas and long rest at the end.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. I am not a certified teacher,
but have been doing kundalini yoga off and on for 30 years.

I am looking forward to starting with you all!
