The practice of Kundalini yoga gives us a perfect opportunity to develop
a loving relationship with our body.While we do the exercises, we pay
attention to the effect that each exercise is having on our body. Our
goal is to /activate, align and achieve the optimal functioning and
integration of/ all parts of our body. We do not achieve these goals by
punishing, jerking around or beating up our body.

Our touchstones are

/stretch NOT strain/

/strengthen NOT hurt/

/activate NOT annoy/

Our body knows the difference and will tell us if we pay attention. Many
Kundalini yoga exercises are vigorous. Their vigor causes our glandular
system to secrete. Our glands must secrete to change our body chemistry
so that our Kundalini can awaken and our consciousness can transform.

Because of the rigor of some Kundalini yoga exercises, the question
often arises -- how far do I push myself and when do stop? One rule of
thumb is "Is this going to hurt when I am done?" If our mind is telling
us to stop, keep going. If our body cannot tolerate the impact, stop.
There is a fine, but clear, line between keeping up during a challenging
exercise and injuring yourself. The more we pay attention to our bodies,
the easier it is to identify that line. Our body responds to kindness
and our body loves to operate at its optimal level. So be kind and
increase your capacity gradually.

Between exercises, we pay attention to the effects by feeling the energy
and the sensations in our body. We often overlook this aspect of our
training. Yet it is during the relaxation, when we are consciously
"doing nothing" that we can actually listen to our body. This is the
optimal time to stay present and let our bodies communicate with us.
They have much to share if we would (1) stop long enough to pay
attention, (2) be patient enough to learn their language and (3) be
humble enough to give value to the messages.

Subject: [Kundalini Yoga] Having a little trouble

HI all, I don't know if anyone can shed some light on this for me, but I went to yoga class at a studio here in L.A. The class was good, challenging, and I made it through fine. But later I had great trouble sleeping when I went to bed. Part of the problem was some achiness from class, but I also think there was overstimulation. Some of the teachers here are very intent on all of us getting ready for the Aquarian age and they REALLY push in class. Kind of drill sargeant like. I usually avoid those teachers as I inevitably end up injured. Unfortunately I tend to push myself anyway, so sometimes the continual pressure to keep going no matter what can push me too far. So here's my question: Is it a common goal of KY to really push the limits? If you can't sleep the night after class does that tell you anything about your process that you need to pay attention to? Any insight much appreciated.

As the Sail takes the ship in the direction of the wind, so your soul shall go...if you just lean towards it. 
 
There is no such thing as pushing, forcing, exertion or drilling in the Dharma.  All of that is a mind game, and in such a game, in the mind and the tattvas they shall perish.
 
My dear friend, let your Soul lean towards the Shabd, ever so calmly, ever so sweet. Let the Shabd Guru carry you through the Gunas into Infinity.  And just say "I am the Light of the Soul, I am Bountiful, I am Beautiful, I am Bliss, I am, I am.  Let God do the rest.

We all have physical limitations, no matter what age we are. When a teacher
pushes too much we tend to over extend ourselves. Pay attention to your own body
and put as much effort into the kriya as is right for you. It does not matter
what your fellow students are doing or what you think your teacher is expecting
of you. We can come into this Aquarian Age with grace and gentleness. blessings

[Kundalini Yoga] Having a little trouble

 

HI all, I don't know if anyone can shed some light on this for me, but I went to yoga class at a studio here in L.A. The class was good, challenging, and I made it through fine. But later I had great trouble sleeping when I went to bed. Part of the problem was some achiness from class, but I also think there was overstimulation. Some of the teachers here are very intent on all of us getting ready for the Aquarian age and they REALLY push in class. Kind of drill sargeant like. I usually avoid those teachers as I inevitably end up injured. Unfortunately I tend to push myself anyway, so sometimes the continual pressure to keep going no matter what can push me too far. Of course you can start out with less times and work up to the longer
times. This is the normal way we practice KY. How about taking lessons

Dear Rebecca,

Tell her she has come to the right place. Everything that she feels are
issues that are addressed in the regular practice of Kundalini yoga.
Very important, include grounding and the descent of the energy. I have

www.kundaliniyoga.org . She could benefit from all those lessons.

The mind is a powerfull thing! The master of illusions...the dust in the mirror.  We have not started our voyage, and we think we are there, no wings, and feel they are broken, no heart, and think we are liberated...can´t follow our soul, and feel it needs repair...
 
My recommendation to your student is to meditate on why the fish gets thristy while surrounded with so much water. And after two or three years, have her ask you again.

She tells me now that as an energy practitioner her energy feels stuck and there is a lot of it and that she thinks it needs to be raised and elevated through her crown chakra and out and wants assistance in doing so.

Any suggestions or thoughts I can give her?

[Kundalini Yoga] question regarding energy (kundalini) raised from a new yoga student

 

Sat Nam,

I have a brand new student who indicated that she had a spontaneous 'kundalini raising' experience before meeting me or attending a yoga class. She has attended one class with me, a few months ago. She tells me now that as an energy practitioner her energy feels stuck and there is a lot of it and that she thinks it needs to be raised and elevated through her crown chakra and out and wants assistance in doing so.

Any suggestions or thoughts I can give her?
